Chinese in Napa Valley, The Forgotten Community that Built Wine Country

On Saturday, August 15, a near-capacity audience in the Orinda Library Auditorium attended a presentation of the documentary film Chinese in Napa Valley, The Forgotten Community that Built Wine Country.  The film is a companion to John McCormick’s book of the same name.

This fascinating film highlighted the many contributions of Chinese workers during the 1870’s and 1880’s in the communities of Napa, Sonoma, St. Helena, and Calistoga.  Their efforts were essential but for years were largely forgotten due to many factors such as racism.  After the film, author McCormick and documentarian Jeff Hamilton held a brief question-and-answer session.  The  Friends of the Orinda Library is proud to have sponsored this important presentation
